October in Seoul 2026: Weather, Fall Foliage, Things to Do, What to Wear & Myeongdong Travel Tips
October is one of the months when we enjoy Myeongdong the most. At Mongvely, we watch Seoul change throughout the year from our two restaurants in the middle of the city, and October always feels noticeably different from the weeks before it. September still carries some of Seoul’s summer energy, but by October, evenings become cooler, people stay outside longer, walking between neighborhoods feels easier, and the city gradually starts moving into its full autumn colors.
For anyone planning October in Seoul, this is a particularly good month because you do not have to choose between city activities and outdoor plans. You can spend the morning around a palace, walk through an older neighborhood in the afternoon, shop in Myeongdong, head toward Namsan before sunset, and still have enough energy left for dinner and a night walk. Summer in Seoul can make that kind of itinerary exhausting, while winter often requires more careful planning around the cold. October gives you much more freedom.
From our perspective in Myeongdong, October is also when Seoul begins to feel especially good after dark. Guests arrive at Mongvely after walking Namsan, shopping for hours, spending the afternoon around Gwanghwamun or Deoksugung, or returning from the Han River. The combination of cooler weather and longer walking days makes a warm Korean BBQ meal feel particularly natural at this time of year.
This guide is our firsthand perspective on October in Seoul, including what the month actually feels like, when to expect fall foliage, where we would spend an autumn day, what to wear, which current 2026 events are worth knowing about, and how to plan Seoul without spending half your trip moving between distant neighborhoods.
What October in Seoul Actually Feels Like
The biggest difference between September and October is not simply the temperature. It is how people use the city.
During the hottest part of summer, people often organize their days around air conditioning. Shopping malls, department stores, cafes, museums and indoor attractions become especially useful because even a short afternoon walk can feel tiring. By October, that changes. Walking stops feeling like something you tolerate between destinations and becomes part of the trip itself.
That matters in Seoul because many of the most interesting areas are better when experienced on foot. Gwanghwamun connects naturally to Deoksugung and City Hall. Cheonggyecheon can lead you toward Euljiro. Myeongdong sits right below Namsan. Seoul Forest connects easily with Seongsu. Bukchon and Seochon are much more interesting when you give yourself time to wander rather than moving from one saved pin to another.
October is therefore one of the best months to slow down your Seoul itinerary. Instead of planning six attractions in six neighborhoods, choose one part of the city and spend several hours there. You will see more of how Seoul actually works.
The evenings are another reason October feels special. The air becomes noticeably cooler once the sun goes down, but for much of the month it is still comfortable enough for long walks. This is when Cheonggyecheon, Myeongdong, Namsan, the Han River and palace-area streets become especially pleasant. You can have dinner and still feel like continuing the night instead of immediately returning to your hotel.
Is October a Good Time to Visit Seoul?
From our experience, October is one of the strongest months for a Seoul trip, particularly for people who like walking, food, shopping, photography and outdoor activities.
The city has moved beyond peak summer heat, but it has not entered winter yet. Parks, palace areas and mountain routes become easier to explore, while indoor attractions remain available if the weather changes. The combination makes October much easier to plan than more extreme seasons.
It is also a particularly good month for first-time visitors because you can experience many different sides of Seoul in one trip. A single day might include traditional architecture in Gyeongbokgung, independent cafes in Seochon, modern shopping in Myeongdong, a Namsan walk and Korean BBQ in the evening without any of those activities feeling out of place.
October is also when autumn festivals and seasonal cultural programs become more active. In 2026, Seoul’s official October calendar includes Seoul Hanok Week, Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom Festival, the Hangang River Festival – Fall and several other citywide cultural events. Official Website of the
The result is a month when you do not need to manufacture an itinerary. There is usually something happening somewhere in the city, and the weather encourages you to spend more time outside discovering it.
October 2026 Fall Foliage in Seoul
One thing we would not recommend is arriving on October 1 and expecting every park in Seoul to already be bright red and yellow.
Autumn foliage develops gradually.
According to VisitKorea’s 2026 fall foliage forecast, Bukhansan is expected to begin showing its first foliage around October 23, with peak color around November 4. The national peak foliage period is expected to run from approximately mid-October through early November, although actual dates can shift depending on weather conditions. VisitKorea specifically highlights places such as Gyeongbokgung Palace, Seoul Forest, Olympic Park and N Seoul Tower as popular Seoul autumn destinations. VisitKorea
This means October should be thought of in stages.
During early October, come for the weather and the beginning of the seasonal atmosphere rather than peak foliage. Seoul is already much more pleasant to walk through, but many trees may still be predominantly green.
By the middle of October, autumn becomes more visible throughout the city. Yellow and red leaves begin appearing more consistently, especially around parks, older streets and mountain areas.
Late October is when we would start prioritizing foliage walks more seriously. Namsan becomes increasingly attractive, palace grounds look more seasonal, and Seoul’s tree-lined streets begin giving you the autumn scenes people usually imagine when they think of Korea in fall.
If your entire trip is centered around the strongest possible foliage, late October into early November gives you a better chance than early October.
Namsan in October: Our Easiest Recommendation From Myeongdong
Because we are based in Myeongdong, Namsan is the autumn route we recommend most naturally.
You do not need a complicated day trip to experience Seoul’s seasonal scenery. Namsan is directly beside central Myeongdong, which means you can combine a mountain walk, city views, shopping and dinner without losing hours to transportation.
The official Seoul travel guide describes several Namsan walking routes as designated autumn trails, including the Southern Walking Path, Northern Walking Path, Sowol-ro and the Namsan Outdoor Botanical Garden. The Southern Walking Path in particular stretches about 1.3 kilometers and is known for its late-October to early-November foliage. Visit Seoul
From our perspective, the best way to enjoy Namsan in October is not to treat N Seoul Tower as the only destination. The walk itself is what makes the season worthwhile. Go up during the afternoon, allow enough time to stop along the way, and let the light change as the evening approaches.
If you do not want a long uphill walk, the Namsan Cable Car is another option and provides views across the city and autumn-covered mountainside. Visit Seoul
Afterward, you can come back down toward Myeongdong rather than traveling to another distant neighborhood for dinner. That is the kind of October itinerary we prefer: fewer transfers, more time actually enjoying the city.
Deoksugung and Jeong-dong for a Slower Seoul Autumn
If you want autumn without hiking, spend an afternoon around Deoksugung and Jeong-dong.
This is one of our favorite central Seoul routes because it feels different from the busiest parts of Myeongdong even though it is nearby. The Deoksugung Stonewall Walkway is lined with mature ginkgo and maple trees, and the combination of palace walls, historic architecture and fall colors creates a very different atmosphere from Seoul’s modern shopping districts. Visit Seoul
You can begin around City Hall, enter Deoksugung, walk the stonewall route, explore Jeong-dong and then continue toward Cheonggyecheon or Euljiro. Because everything is relatively close together, you spend most of your time walking rather than taking the subway.
This kind of route is particularly good in October because the weather allows you to stay outside comfortably. You can stop when you find a cafe, take photos without rushing, and continue walking only when you feel like it.
If your evening eventually brings you toward Euljiro 1-ga, our second Mongvely branch is on that side of Myeongdong, which makes it easy to finish the route with dinner without crossing the city again.
Gyeongbokgung, Bukchon and Seochon in October
Traditional Seoul becomes especially attractive during October.
Gyeongbokgung is already one of the city’s major landmarks, but cooler weather makes the palace grounds much easier to explore. The combination of traditional architecture and changing autumn colors is also one reason VisitKorea highlights Gyeongbokgung as a popular Seoul foliage destination. VisitKorea
Our recommendation is to go early rather than building your visit around midday. The palace can become crowded, particularly on weekends and holidays, and the experience is much better when you have room to walk.
After Gyeongbokgung, resist the temptation to immediately take the subway to another famous district. Instead, continue into Seochon or Bukchon, depending on your route.
In October 2026, this is especially relevant because the city is holding Seoul Hanok Week from October 2 to October 11 across Bukchon and Seochon, with 82 programs including exhibitions, tours, performances and hands-on activities focused on traditional Korean housing and culture. Official Website of the
That makes early October particularly good for spending a full day in this part of Seoul.
Rather than treating the palace, hanok neighborhoods and cafes as separate attractions, allow them to become one continuous walk.
Seoul Forest and Seongsu: Autumn Plus Contemporary Seoul
If you want a less traditional day, combine Seoul Forest and Seongsu.
Seoul Forest is one of VisitKorea’s recommended Seoul fall foliage destinations, and October is when the park becomes much more comfortable for long walks. VisitKorea
The reason we like this combination is that Seoul Forest and Seongsu give you two very different versions of the city in one area. Start with trees, open paths and seasonal scenery, then move into Seongsu for cafes, fashion stores, pop-ups and newer Korean brands.
Seongsu can become extremely busy during weekends, so a weekday is better if your schedule allows it. October’s comfortable weather also means you do not need to plan every cafe in advance. Choose one or two places you genuinely want to visit and leave room to discover something while walking.
One of the easiest ways to make a Seoul itinerary exhausting is to turn every hour into a reservation. October is too good for walking to spend the entire day running between appointments.
Haneul Park and Seoul’s Silver Grass Season
Autumn in Seoul is not only about maple leaves.
Haneul Park becomes especially attractive because of its silver grass fields. The wide landscape, open sky and views across the city create a very different fall experience from a palace or tree-lined street.
The best time to visit is later in the afternoon. The silver grass changes dramatically depending on the light, and sunset gives the landscape a warmer tone.
We would treat Haneul Park as a larger part of the day rather than trying to squeeze it between unrelated attractions. Wear comfortable shoes, leave enough time to reach the top and do not schedule an inflexible dinner immediately afterward.
If you are staying in Myeongdong, returning to the city center later for dinner is often easier than adding another unfamiliar neighborhood to the evening.
October 2026 Events Worth Knowing About
One advantage of visiting Seoul in October 2026 is that several major seasonal events overlap with the comfortable weather.
The Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom Festival is scheduled at Nodeul Island from October 2 to October 11, running in the evening from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM. The city describes it as a large waterfront laser-art festival using the Han River as its setting. Official Website of the
If you prefer daytime and active outdoor plans, the 2026 Hangang River Festival – Fall runs from October 17 to October 25 across Hangang locations, with activities built around movement, food, relaxation and performances. Official Website of the
The Car-Free Jamsugyo Bridge Festival also continues every Sunday through October 25, turning Jamsugyo Bridge into a pedestrian space with food trucks, rest areas and weekly programs. Official Website of the
October also includes important Korean public holidays. National Foundation Day falls on October 3 and Hangeul Day on October 9, so travelers should be aware that some businesses or schedules may differ on those dates. Official Website of the
We would not recommend building your entire trip around events, but knowing what is happening helps you avoid accidentally arriving somewhere during a major crowd or missing something that fits naturally into your route.
What to Wear in Seoul in October
October clothing in Seoul is mostly about layers.
The beginning of the month can still feel mild during the afternoon, particularly when the sun is out. You may be comfortable in a shirt, blouse or light knit without needing heavy outerwear.
Once evening arrives, the temperature difference becomes more noticeable. A cardigan, light jacket, thin knit or overshirt becomes useful, especially if you are spending time around Namsan, the Han River or open outdoor spaces.
Later in October, you will probably want a more substantial jacket in the evening, although a heavy winter coat is generally not the first thing we would pack for most October days.
The most important thing, however, is footwear.
We see travelers spend much more time walking around Myeongdong than they originally planned, and that is before adding palace grounds, hills, parks or subway transfers. Seoul stations themselves can involve a surprising amount of walking.
Wear shoes you can comfortably use for an entire day.
October makes people walk more because the weather feels good, which means uncomfortable shoes become even more noticeable.
How We Would Plan a First October Day in Seoul
If someone visiting Mongvely asked us how to spend one October day without wasting time, we would probably keep the route central.
Start around Gyeongbokgung or Gwanghwamun in the morning, when the palace area is calmer. Spend some time walking toward Seochon or Deoksugung rather than immediately getting back on the subway.
In the afternoon, continue toward City Hall and Cheonggyecheon. By this point, you will have seen traditional architecture, modern central Seoul and one of the city’s easiest walking routes without needing multiple transfers.
Continue toward Euljiro and Myeongdong as evening approaches. Shop, have coffee or walk through the main streets before dinner.
This kind of route works because every part of the day connects.
You are not spending forty minutes traveling from one famous neighborhood to another simply because both appeared on a social media list.
Shopping in Myeongdong During October
October is also one of the best months for a proper Myeongdong shopping day because you can move comfortably between indoor and outdoor stores.
Myeongdong has changed significantly in recent years. While it is still one of Seoul’s major K-beauty areas, the neighborhood now has a much stronger Korean fashion presence.
You can shop Korean brands at KINETIC GROUND on the ninth floor of Lotte Department Store Main Store, browse over 100 brands at MUSINSA Store Myeongdong, explore NYUNYU, visit the large Olive Young stores and continue through global flagships such as Adidas and UNIQLO.
October weather makes this much easier because you can move between stores without constantly trying to escape summer heat or winter cold.
Our advice is to allow a full afternoon rather than treating Myeongdong as a quick stop. Shop slowly, take a cafe break and have dinner nearby instead of scheduling another distant neighborhood for the evening.
October Nights in Seoul
Some of the best moments in October happen after sunset.
The city becomes cooler but remains active, and Seoul’s lighting gives familiar places a completely different atmosphere.
Cheonggyecheon works especially well for a casual evening walk. Namsan gives you city views. Myeongdong remains busy with shopping and food. Euljiro has a different downtown character, while the Han River becomes increasingly comfortable as the humidity disappears.
In early October 2026, Nodeul Island’s Seoul Light Hangang festival provides another reason to plan an evening near the river. Later in the month, Hangang fall festival programs give you more options for spending time outside. Official Website of the
The important thing is not to fill every evening with a major attraction. Some nights are better when dinner is the main plan and everything afterward is optional.
What We Notice Guests Want to Eat in October
One thing changes naturally at Mongvely as the weather becomes cooler: people arrive ready for something warm.
Korean BBQ works particularly well in October because the heat of the grill no longer feels like something you are fighting against. Instead, it becomes part of the comfort of the meal.
Guests can sit down after hours of walking and start with beef or pork, add banchan and sauces, build lettuce wraps and move into rice, ramen, cold noodles or soybean stew depending on the course.
The appeal is not simply eating a lot. It is being able to slow down.
October Seoul days often become longer than people expect because the weather encourages you to keep walking. By dinner, sitting around a grill for a proper meal can feel much better than continuing to snack while standing outside.
A Small Mongvely Recommendation for Your October Seoul Trip
We do not think every Seoul itinerary needs to revolve around one restaurant, so this is the only section where we will talk properly about ourselves.
Mongvely is an all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ restaurant in Myeongdong with a main branch near Myeongdong Station and a second branch near Euljiro 1-ga Station.
Both branches are open daily from 11:30 AM to 2:00 AM, and our two-hour BBQ experience includes unlimited beef and pork with banchan, sauces and wraps, with additional items available depending on the selected course. MYEONGDONG KOREAN BBQ MONGVELY
October is one of the easiest seasons to include Mongvely naturally in your day because several good autumn routes finish close to us.
A Namsan → Myeongdong → Korean BBQ evening works especially well.
So does Deoksugung → Cheonggyecheon → Euljiro → Korean BBQ.
If you have been shopping around Myeongdong for several hours, you also do not need to carry your bags across Seoul just to find dinner.
Our late closing time is useful when autumn plans run longer than expected. There is no need to cut a sunset walk short simply because you are worried about eating early.
Rainy October Days in Seoul
October generally gives you much more outdoor flexibility than peak rainy-season months, but rain can still happen.
Our advice is not to fight the weather.
If a rainy day appears in the forecast, use it for things you were probably going to do anyway: shopping in Myeongdong, The Hyundai Seoul, COEX, museums, department stores, cafes or a longer meal.
Then save Namsan, Seoul Forest, Haneul Park or palace walks for a clearer day.
This sounds obvious, but many itineraries are planned so tightly that people end up walking through a park in the rain simply because that was what Tuesday was supposed to be.
October rewards flexibility.
A rainy afternoon in Myeongdong can still be a very good Seoul day because most of what you need is close together. You can shop, eat, have coffee and use the subway without spending long periods outdoors.
Weekdays Are Better for Famous Autumn Areas
If your schedule gives you a choice, use weekdays for the places that become famous during autumn.
Namsan, Seoul Forest, Haneul Park, Bukhansan and palace neighborhoods can become much busier on beautiful October weekends because Seoul residents are enjoying the season at the same time.
This is an important thing to remember: you are not only competing with other travelers for autumn views.
Millions of people live here, and we also want to go outside when the weather finally becomes perfect.
Use weekends for larger shopping districts, flexible city neighborhoods or activities where crowds do not completely change the experience. Save your most scenic walks for weekdays when possible.
Do You Need a Day Trip From Seoul in October?
Not necessarily.
October brings plenty of day-trip possibilities outside Seoul, but we would not automatically sacrifice one of your limited city days simply because you saw a famous autumn destination online.
If you only have three or four days in Seoul, you can already experience Korean autumn through Namsan, Bukhansan, Seoul Forest, palace grounds, Deoksugung, Haneul Park and Olympic Park.
Day trips make more sense if you have a longer stay or specifically want countryside scenery.
One of the advantages of Seoul is that mountains and large green spaces are integrated into the city. You can spend the morning surrounded by trees and still be back in Myeongdong for shopping by evening.
The Biggest Mistake We See With Seoul Itineraries
The biggest mistake is trying to cover too much Seoul in one day.
People underestimate the size of the city because the subway makes everything look connected.
It is connected, but that does not mean it is close.
A plan involving Bukchon, Seongsu, Gangnam, Hongdae and Myeongdong may technically work if your only goal is to say you visited all five neighborhoods. You will spend a significant part of the day underground, walking through stations and checking maps.
October deserves a better itinerary.
Choose connected areas and walk between them.
A Gwanghwamun–Deoksugung–Cheonggyecheon–Euljiro–Myeongdong day gives you history, architecture, water, shopping, food and nightlife with very little wasted movement.
A Seoul Forest–Seongsu day gives you nature, fashion, cafes and contemporary Korean culture.
A Myeongdong–Namsan day gives you shopping, autumn scenery, views and dinner.
That is how we would experience Seoul in October.
Final Thoughts: October in Seoul From Mongvely
From where we are in Myeongdong, October feels like the month when Seoul becomes easiest to enjoy.
The summer humidity fades. People walk more. Namsan starts changing. Palace areas become more comfortable. The Han River becomes inviting again. Shoppers spend longer outside, and dinner plans naturally get later because nobody is rushing back indoors.
Early October is excellent for comfortable city exploration and events such as Seoul Hanok Week and the Seoul Light Hangang Bitseom Festival. Mid-October brings stronger autumn atmosphere and more Han River programs. Late October begins moving Seoul toward its most recognizable foliage season, with the 2026 forecast expecting Bukhansan’s color change to begin around October 23 before its projected early-November peak. Official Website of the
Our strongest advice is therefore not to over-plan.
Wear comfortable shoes. Bring a layer for evening. Check the foliage forecast shortly before your trip. Spend entire afternoons in connected neighborhoods rather than crossing Seoul repeatedly. Leave some time for unexpected cafes, quiet streets and longer walks.
And when you eventually become hungry, eat properly.
For us, that is one of the best parts of October in Seoul: spending hours outside because the weather finally allows it, then sitting down around a warm Korean BBQ grill at the end of the day.
